Academic Support Services

Dorothy Johansen (DoJo) House

Because students strengthen talents and build new skills both inside and outside the classroom, Reed has developed several important resources to complement the curriculum. In collaboration with faculty, Academic Support Services offers peer tutoring, a cooperative study environment, writing support, workshops, and individualized coaching. Students should consult with their adviser about how Academic Support can help manage the demands of being a Reed student.

Reed is a place where intellectual life is paramount; the primary goal is not learning to make the grade but learning to learn.  Because students strengthen talents and build new skills both inside and outside the classroom, Reed has developed several important resources to complement the Reed curriculum. In collaboration with faculty, academic support offers peer tutoring, a cooperative study environment, writing and quantitative support, workshops, and individualized coaching.  Students should consult with their faculty adviser to learn how academic support can help manage the demands of being a Reed student.  All our services are free.

Please go to the academic support website to see how to access these resources.

Peer Tutoring
Reed provides each student with up to one hour of free individual tutoring per subject per week for many classes.  In addition, drop-in tutoring for a variety of subjects is available at the Dorothy Johansen House and several other locations on campus. Visit our peer tutoring resource page for more information.

Workshops
Would you like a refresher on how to use logarithms or exponents? Want to hear time management tips from your peers, and offer some ideas of your own? Looking for inside information on how to prioritize your reading? Share your ideas and learn from others at workshops scheduled throughout the year.

Academic Coaching
Staff members are available to discuss study skills, quantitative skills, learning styles, time management, test anxiety, procrastination, and academic stress. To learn more, visit our academic coaching page.
